On 29 March 2023, the Italian Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning and Sustainable Development (CIPESS) approved the allocation of EUR 1.27 billion to cover the third construction lot of the international section of the Lyon-Turin railway line. This measure, which implements the allocation provided for in the 2022 Budget Law, will support the work for the completion of the base tunnel.

Italy is financing the project in ‘construction lots’, each of which includes various activities and works according to the execution phases. To date, four out of five construction lots are being financed, for a total Italian contribution of approximately EUR 4.3 billion. This is gross of the European co-financing, currently at 40 per cent, which will gradually return to the state treasury as the EU contributions are collected.
