A quarter of the total number of tunnels planned for the work were excavated. Of these, more than 15 km are part of the base tunnel for the passage of freight and passenger trains.

Avrieux | Completed the drilling of three of the four ventilation shafts, 500 metres deep, which are essential for bringing in fresh and clean air from outside by exchanging it with the hot air in the base tunnel. Also at work is the remotely controlled robot, designed and built to reinforce with concrete some of the cavities that opened up at a depth of about 350 metres on the shaft profile during the excavation phase.

Chiomonte | The group of companies has ordered from Herrenknecht, the European leader in the TBM sector, the first of two TBMs for the excavation of the Italian section of the base tunnel. In the meantime, core drilling for environmental investigations in the construction site has begun.

Saint-Martin-la-Porte | The first of five TBMs to operate on the French side was transported and installed in the tunnel. At the same time, conveyor belts were installed for the logistics of the excavated materials, and finally, on the La Praz construction site, the excavation of the interconnecting tunnel between the existing shaft and the technical cavern was completed.

San Didero / Bruzolo | Completed the service area and the two access ramps from the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway of the new truck and car terminal serving heavy vehicles in transit to and from the French border.

Villarodin-Bourget | In the area where the access tunnel is located, the system of tunnels has been completed, with caverns ranging from 60m² to 420m², necessary to house two TBMs for the excavation of the base tunnel in the direction of Italy and the underground safety site at Modane.

Modane and Fourneaux | The new bypass has been built to allow construction vehicles to move around without impacting traffic on the ordinary roads of the two municipalities.

Salbertrand | Completed the removal of all materials abandoned by various parties over the last thirty years; started activities to connect the area designated to host the site for the reuse of excavated materials from the Lyon-Turin project to the A32 highway.

Saint-Julien-Montdenis | The traditional excavation of the two tunnels of the base tunnel has exceeded 1,300 metres per pipe and the first 6 by-passes have been constructed, which will guarantee pedestrian passage between the two tubes in case of emergency or maintenance
