TELT has taken part in InnoTrans 2024, which was held in Berlin from September 24 to 27. The trade fair, a global benchmark for the railway mobility sector, provided the opportunity to present the progress of the Lyon-Turin base tunnel, a key project for the future of transportation infrastructure in Europe.
With an interactive stand and a team of experts, TELT showcased to visitors and industry professionals the technical advancements of the project, highlighting the technologies used and the innovative solutions adopted to tackle the engineering and environmental challenges of the world’s longest rail tunnel. The project, which involves the construction of a 57.5-km-long tunnel beneath the Alps, represents a crucial step towards improving connections between Italy and France, and more broadly between Western and Eastern Europe, promoting sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of road freight transport.
The main focus was the Operational Construction Site 12, a single binational lot that concerns the railway and technological equipment of the base tunnel and its above ground sections. This construction site represents one of the most advanced and complex phases of the project, essential to ensure that the entire rail system is equipped with the most modern and safest technologies.
The international tender for the railway and technological equipment and the maintenance of the cross-border section, worth €2.9 billion, is currently underway. Meanwhile, several tenders for three complementary activities, which are scheduled for the autumn, will accompany the public promoter through to the commissioning of the line: management assistance for economic-financial aspects, technical-engineering support during the design phase, and support in the management and operation of the line.
All details and project updates were discussed on September 27 during a presentation carried out by TELT’s CEO, Maurizio Bufalini, and TELT’s Engineering Director, Arturo Turi, entitled “Lyon-Turin: an innovative railway project for a sustainable connection of Europe.”
